ABOUT GEMMA
A surface pattern and textile designer with 15yrs of experience in the creative industries, based in Cornwall, UK.
With a deep passion for colour, pattern, and texture, I specialise in creating innovative designs for a wide variety of products, from home textiles, wallpaper, tiles, upholstery, and giftware, to stationery and accessories. Over the years, I’ve honed my expertise in designing collections that blend artistic hand-painted prints with market-driven trends, helping brands and manufacturers bring fresh, creative concepts to life.
From an early age I was inspired by my surroundings, particularly nature and botanicals. At 13, I was fortunate to travel to India with my Gramps to meet my Great Gran. Observing and absorbing the vibrancy of the country and culture, the textiles, the work of Artisans, and the architecture, this sparked my passion for travel. It was at this time, colour, pattern and texture became an integral part of my thinking.
Driven by my love of the handmade, I create artwork through paintings, and mixed media for screen printing and digital print techniques, as well as wovens and embroidery. Freelance work includes designing prints and surface patterns for clients large and small from both Homewares and Apparel industries. Researching trends to consult for Home & Interior clients, and Creative Direction and sourcing materials for upholstery manufacturers.
